Venerable Fr. Zacharias Day
The 23rd of May had always been a day of great significance for the Manjummel Carmelite family, as it marks the death anniversary of the Venerable Fr. Zacharias OCD. This year, in honour of his 66th death anniversary, programs were arranged to honour this great visionary and missionary, a gift of Our Lord, to the land of Kerala. A Seminar was organized in Carmel Retreat Centre, Manjummel on the theme: Synodality: The Ecclesial Views of Venerable Fr. Zacharias. The paper was presented by Rev. Fr. Bineesh Elanjikal, who spoke on the visionary that was Fr. Zacharias, who spoke on the synodal character of the Church even before it could be discussed in the Vatican Council II. The Seminar was followed by Holy Eucharist at the Immaculate Conception Monastery Church, Manjummel, the main celebrant of which was Rev. Fr. Augustine Mulloor OCD, the Provincial and Fr. Joseph Kakkery OCD broke the word. The Seminar and the Holy Mass were attended by the Fathers and Brothers of the Manjummel Province, the members of the Secular Carmel Family, religious sisters from the neighbouring convents and also the laity from the parish of Manjummel. Following the Holy Mass, the entire gathering made a solemn prayer at the tomb of Venerable Fr. Zacharias that he may be raised by God to the status and honour of being venerated at the altar.
