Kochi, September 26, 2024 – Recently renovated Amalodbhavanatha Ashram Church in Manjumal witnessed a grand and spiritual celebration on Thursday evening as the faithful gathered in large numbers for the blessing of the newly refurbished sacred space.

The solemn occasion was led by Varapuzha Archbishop Dr. Joseph Kalathiparambil, who officiated the ceremony and celebrated the Pontifical Mass at 5 p.m.

The Archbishop was joined by several high-ranking clergy, including Archbishop Emeritus Dr. Francis Kallarakkal and Auxiliary Bishop Dr. Antony Valungal. Fr. Augustine Mulloor, the Provincial Superior of the Manjumal Province, along with the councillors of the Manjumal Province, the parish priest, and other priests, co-celebrated the Eucharistic service.

The renovated church, which now boasts enhanced facilities while preserving its traditional architecture, is expected to continue serving as a beacon of faith and a center for religious activities in the region.

A 148-year-old crypt containing three century-old tombs has been unearthed beneath the Immaculate Conception Parish Church in Manjummel, Ernakulam, during recent renovations. The crypt, hidden beneath the nave, was sealed and forgotten for generations, but historical records led to its rediscovery.

The tombs, belonging to Discalced Carmelite friars, remain remarkably intact. Originally part of the church’s design in 1876, the crypt was closed in 1924 under ecclesiastical directive and had been hidden ever since. The discovery offers a rare glimpse into the church’s rich history.

The Immaculate Conception church has gained further spiritual and cultural importance by becoming the final resting place of the mortal remains of two Venerable Carmelite friars: Venerable Fr. Zacharias, OCD, and Venerable Fr. Auralian, OCD. This sacred site, already known for its rich religious history and devotion to the Carmelite tradition, has now become a place of pilgrimage for the faithful seeking spiritual inspiration from these holy men.
