Gone from our sight but never from our hearts…
“An ardent catholic by birth, a unfathomable but humble philosopher by profession, a true faithful Teresian Carmelite by life”: this can be a summarized sketch on the life of late Dr. Athanasius D’Almeida of St. Teresa OCD who departed to his Heavenly Abode on 25th July 2021 at 10. 30 am.
Born on 24th November 1938 at Palliport and baptized at the Basilica of Our Lady of Snow, Palliport, he constantly brought in his heart a true Marian devotion which resulted in his entry to Carmel by making the simple profession on 26th March 1957 and helped him to effectively complete the utmost positions in the Manjummel province as a conventual, master, Superior, Provincial and Definitor General of the Order of Discalced Carmelites during his 83 years of life on earth.
As a priest, ordained on 2nd December 1964, he served the catholic church with his simple and ardent religious life and as a professor since 1968, he formed a large number of priests through his teaching career at Carmelgiri Pontifical Seminary Aluva, Sacred Heart philosophy college Aluva and other various institutions. The Manjummel Province grieves at the irreplaceable loss of Dr. Athanasius D’Almeida OCD and prays that may the Good Lord grant him the wreath of eternal glory.
