The candidate pursues his formation in philosophy so that he may be able to reach greater fullness in the life style and his mission of Teresian Carmel. The province is conscious of this grave responsibility of furnishing the young religious with favorable conditions for a real increase in his donation to the Lord.
Before commencing their specific theological studies, the students should, by rule, three years of philosophy course. This basic philosophical formation will permit the students to acquire knowledge of God and a Christian vision of the world, in close connection with the debated questions of our times.
The spiritual formation and the intellectual instruction of the candidates are to be harmoniously blended. They are to be so planned that the students, each according to his talents, simultaneously develop the requisite human maturity, acquire the spirit of the Gospel as well as a relationship with Christ, and develop in the assimilation of the Carmelite Charism. Thus, for the formation of this phase to be systematic, it should not only be spiritual and apostolic, doctrinal and practical, but also should lead to appropriate degrees, both ecclesiastical and civil.
